Fabiola, the children’s librarian at The Ballard Public Library with the Kister Day Kamp trolls.

Hello, Thank you for visiting!

You might be here because you saw the trolls at the Ballard Public Library and wondered who made them so you scanned the QR code… and here you are!

Welcome!

These trolls were made by 4th and 5th grade students at Kister Day Kamp on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023. The camp was help at the National Nordic Museum, where I rented a beautiful classroom so we can be close to the the new troll installation, Frankie Feetsplinters by Thomas Dambo. During our day, we studied the troll, about the artists and his other works. The artist, Thomas Dambo said “I grew up with many different fairy tales. In all of Scandinavia, we have trolls in our mythology and in our folklore” so we studied the story and music of Peer Gynt (by E. Grieg) to familiarize with the type of story that might have inspired Thomas Dambo. Plus, the story of Peer Gynt has trolls… take a listen to “In the Hall of the Mountain King” but be waned, it’s a little scary!

The materials for this project were collected by me, Emilia. Many were donated from my neighborhood Facebook group and local BuyNothing group. Thanks, neighbors! The children also collected and brought in special materials on the day of camp.

Take a look at the pictures from our amazing day, and enjoy the trolls!
